Release day itself is chaos if you haven’t planned it. Here’s the checklist to actually work from, hour by hour, instead of scrambling.
Before the Clock Hits Midnight (or Your Release Time)
- Confirm the song is actually live on at least one major platform (Spotify shows fastest, usually)
- Have your announcement post pre-written and ready to publish immediately, not written on the fly
- Prep direct messages to people who said they’d share it — personal messages outperform public posts for early engagement
First Hour
- Post the announcement across every platform you use, not just one
- Update your bio links to point directly to the new release
- Personally message the people who committed to sharing, with a direct link ready to go
First 6 Hours
- Post a short-form clip — a hook, a behind-the-scenes moment, anything that gives people a reason to click through
- Check early streaming numbers and note what’s landing versus what isn’t
- Respond to every comment and share personally — early engagement compounds
First 24 Hours
- Go live if you’re comfortable with it — real-time interaction drives urgency
- Repost any fan content or reactions you’re tagged in
- Send a follow-up message to your pre-save list letting them know it’s live
Days 2–7
- Keep posting new content tied to the song — don’t let it go quiet after day one
- Reach out to any blogs, playlists, or curators you haven’t already contacted
- Track which piece of content drove the most engagement, and do more of that
Don’t Wing It
The artists who get the most out of a release aren’t necessarily the ones with the best song — they’re the ones with the clearest plan for the days around it. This checklist is the short version. The full release-day plan, along with everything leading up to it, is in the Dancehall Release Guide.
